Commencement 2026 Parking & Alternative Transportation Information

Our office will be closed for Commencement preparations & ceremonies: Friday, May 15th - Sunday, May 17th. We will reopen on Monday, May 18th.

Commencement 2026 Parking Permits

The commencement ceremonies require a virtual commencement parking permit to park on campus.  Each commencement ceremony will have its own unique parking permit that will only be valid on the designated date and time. Each graduate can receive one (1) parking permit and can register up to three (3) vehicles to it (this includes the graduate's vehicle). Vehicles with a DMV-issued Disabled Persons Parking Placard or license plate must also have the virtual commencement parking permit to park on campus for all ceremonies.  
 
  • The special commencement parking permits are virtual
  • Each graduate will receive up to one (1) parking permit and can register up to three (3) vehicles to it
  • Both Grads and Guests will need to register their vehicle to a permit
  • The printed confirmation email needs to be displayed on the dashboard when you park
  • Register vehicles to the parking permit. If you are unsure of the vehicle you will use, you will be able to modify it yourself. Instructions will be included in the confirmation email. Information cannot be changed or altered after the ceremony begins.
  • Permits can be registered online beginning March 24th
  • THE LAST DAY TO REGISTER FOR PERMITS IS MONDAY, MAY 11th*

 

*For Rental Vehicles - You can register Rental Vehicles on the day of the ceremony up until 1 hour before it begins. You will not need to display the confirmation email on the dashboard for Rental Vehicles registered on the day of the ceremony.


 

Note: Graduates and guests should anticipate traffic delays, especially on Mission Boulevard. Please allow extra time for travel. All graduates and guests will need this special parking permit to park on campus during commencement. The University’s Semester/Daily/Hourly parking permits are NOT valid for the commencement ceremonies. 

Additional permits cannot be purchased as we have limited parking for ceremonies. We strongly encourage carpooling with guests, AC Transit Line 60 (from Hayward BART) or Uber/Lyft drop off.

  • Parking permits will be virtual and vehicles must be registered to the permit. Graduates can obtain their parking permits beginning March 24, 2026 online. The last day to register a permit to a vehicle is May 11th.*

     

    Once you have registered the vehicles (up to 3), print out the registration confirmation emails and display it on each vehicle's dashboard the day of the ceremony. (If you are unsure of the vehicle you will use, you will be able to modify it yourself. Instructions will be included in the confirmation email. Information cannot be changed or altered after the ceremony begins.)  We will be at GradFest in person on March 24th, 25th & 26th if you have questions on this process.     Please find your ceremony below and use the correct link to register your vehicle. The graduate Net ID and License Plate number will be needed to during registration. 

    • Please make sure you have already filed for graduation before attempting to get the parking permits.
    • If you filed in October 2025, you will be able to get your permits starting March 24th.
    • If you filed by the late filing deadline of April 1, 2026, please wait for your information to be uploaded.  You can check back on April 13, 2026.
    • The commencement celebration will include all students who have filed for graduation for Fall 2025, Spring 2026 and Summer 2026.   • All traffic will be one way. Enter campus via the Carlos Bee Blvd entrance and exit campus via Harder Road.

  • If you were unable to register for parking permits, please use either Uber/Lyft Drop-off or use the Local bus AC Transit Line 60 running to/from Downtown Hayward BART. Details in the next  section.

  • If you were unable to register for parking permits, please use the local bus AC Transit Line 60 running to/from Downtown Hayward BART.

     

    AC Transit (Bus)

    Park at the downtown City Hall parking garage for free and walk over to Hayward BART. Buses can get full, so plan on getting to the stop 30-45 minutes earlier in case there is a line or you need to wait for another bus.

    • Are parking permits needed to park on campus during Commencement Ceremonies?                              

    Yes, virtual commencement parking permits will be required to park at the University for ceremonies on Friday, May 15th, Saturday, May 16th, and Sunday, May 17th. The University’s Semester/Daily/Hourly parking permits are NOT valid for the commencement ceremonies. Please keep in mind that having a virtual commencement parking permit does not guarantee a parking space on campus. Parking is limited and will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                             

    • How do I get my parking permit for the ceremony?

    You can obtain your parking permit via your ceremony link on the Parking website. Scroll up to the "Parking Permit Registration Links" section above. Each commencement ceremony will have its own unique special commencement parking permit that will only be valid on the designated date and time. Parking permits will be virtual and linked to a vehicle by license plate. The confirmation receipt must be displayed on the dashboard when parking on campus. Be sure to register your vehicle and obtain your permits by Monday, May 11, 2026.  


    • What if I am renting a car and don't know the license plate number yet?

    For rental vehicles or last-minute needs, registration will reopen on the day of your ceremony from midnight until one hour before your ceremony begins, allowing you time to register the vehicle. (You will not be required to print the confirmation email.)


    • What happens if I didn't register my vehicle but show up for the ceremony?

    Vehicles without the confirmation receipt displayed or vehicle registration in the system will not be permitted to park on campus.


    • What entrance to campus do I use for Commencement Ceremonies?

    There will be one way traffic only on campus. All vehicles will enter campus via Carlos Bee Blvd and exit via Harder Road.


    • Is the graduate required to display the parking permit confirmation on their vehicle?

    Yes, every vehicle parking on the campus for Friday, Saturday and Sunday ceremonies will be required to display the confirmation receipt of their virtual commencement parking permit on their dashboard.  The University’s Semester/Daily/Hourly parking permits are NOT valid for the commencement ceremonies.  Carpooling with family, friends or other graduates is highly encouraged.  


    • When should the graduate arrive for the ceremonies?

    It is recommended that graduates arrive at least one hour before the start of your ceremony to find parking and make your way over to the Graduate Assembly Area across from the Music Building.  


    • Where should graduates park on commencement day? Where should guests park?

    Graduates will park in the same lots as Guests, Parking Lots G and H. Please follow road signs and the instructions of law enforcement personnel who will be directing traffic.


    • Where should graduates or guests park if they have a Disabled Placard?

    Vehicles displaying a DMV-issued Disabled Persons Parking Placard, along with the special commencement confirmation receipt and registration in the system, will be directed to PARKING LOT K. Please follow road signs and the instructions of law enforcement personnel who will be directing traffic.


    • What happens if parking on campus fills up?

    In the event that parking on campus reaches capacity in the designated lots for the ceremonies, guests and graduates will be directed to park in the overflow lots near the West side of campus.


    • Will the AC Transit Bus be running to/from the BART station? 

    Yes, the AC Transit bus Line 60 will run to/from the DOWNTOWN HAYWARD BART STATION. Please see their for bus times and fares. Students can use their EasyPass to ride for free. If your guest needs financial assistance due to fare cost, please email us at .


    • Will there be UBER/LYFT drop off locations?

    Yes, the University will provide UBER and Lyft drop off and pick up locations. All ceremonies will take place at the Amphitheater and the drop off/ pick up location will be in Lot H, in marked spaces. 

  • If you work or have finals please be aware some parking lots are closed or are reserved for Commencement ceremonies Friday, May 15th, Saturday, May 16th & Sunday, May 17th. 

     

    AVAILABLE: (GREEN)  If you need to be parked on campus for finals or work, park in these lots: East Side: Lot D, E, F or far side of G. West Side: A, B, C, C1 or West Loop Road (curb parking)

     

    CLOSED (RED): Parking Lots/areas that are closed:  J, N, P and East Loop Road - curb parking 

     

    RESERVED (BLUE) : Parking lots that are reserved for Commencement parking only:   K (ADA), L (Security/VIP), G & H  (Grads/Guests/Event Staff)

  • TRAFFIC FLOW  - May 15th - 17th

    Please review the map below to review areas of designated 20-minute loading zones or no parking zones. Please follow the signage. 

    NOTE - University Commencement will take place from May 15 through May 17. We urge that you review the commencement ceremony times to plan around high traffic hours. During these three days, CSUEB traffic pattern will be adjusted to have a one-way campus entrance only at Carlos Bee Blvd. Entrance to Housing will need to follow Commencement traffic. There will be no access to campus via Harder Road.

  • Harder Road will be closed at Bryn Mawr Ave Eastbound direction only (uphill) on Friday, May 15th - Sunday, May 17th.

    • Westview Way and above Residents will be able to exit via Harder Road but cannot enter via Harder Road. 
    • All Westview Way and above Residents please use Central Blvd as an entrance
