The FD&O Custodial Services team maintains clean, safe, healthy, and welcoming environments throughout University facilities through routine cleaning schedules established for each building. These schedules help ensure that classrooms, offices, restrooms, common areas, and other campus spaces receive regular service while also allowing the team to provide specialized cleaning and event support that contribute to the daily operation of the University.
Primary Services & Responsibilities
- Routine cleaning of classrooms, offices, common areas, and other University spaces
- Restroom cleaning, sanitizing, restocking, and related service
- Floor care, including carpet cleaning, floor refinishing, and specialized floor maintenance
- Trash, recycling, and compost collection
- Response to spills and other custodial-related concerns
- Special and seasonal deep-cleaning activities

- Emergency custodial response associated with leaks, flooding, and other facility-related incidents
Planned & Specialized Cleaning
In addition to routine daily service, Custodial Services performs scheduled and specialized cleaning activities based on facility needs, campus schedules, events, and other operational requirements.

The FD&O Electrical team maintains the electrical systems and distribution infrastructure that provide power throughout University facilities. From building electrical systems and lighting to high-voltage campus power distribution and emergency systems, the team supports the safe and reliable operation of the University's buildings, infrastructure, and critical equipment.

The FD&O Engineering team operates and maintains the mechanical and control systems that provide heating, cooling, ventilation, refrigeration, and enbironmental control throughout University facilities. The team also supports emergency generators and related standby-power systems that help maintain critical building operations during power interruptions. Building Service Engineers, Air Conditioning/Refrigeration Mechanics, and building controls specialists work together to support indoor comfort, building performance, energy-efficient operation, emergency preparedness, and the reliable operation of campus facilities.

The team maintains landscapes, turf, irrigation systems, trees, and other exterior areas across University facilities and also provides grounds support for Athletics and other specialized campus needs.
Some Grounds responsibilities are performed directly by FD&O staff, while specialized services are supplemented through contracted providers where appropriate.

The FD&O Lock Shop maintains the locking, door-hardware, and access-control systems that help secure University buildings and spaces. Work Control & Administrative Services serves as a central point for customer service, Work Request administration, and coordination of Facilities services. The team assists members of the campus community with general Facilities inquiries, helps customers navigate FD&O processes, and provides administrative support that helps keep department operations moving.
The team also supports FD&O's internal operations through budget and financial administration, purchasing and procurement, and coordination with the department's shops and service areas.
Primary Services & Responsibilities
- Work Control & Work Request Administration - Reviews incoming Work Requests, follows up with requestors when additional information is needed, assigns priorities, and routes requests to the appropriate FD&O service area. Once assigned, the responsible shop assumes primary responsibility for scheduling and completing the work.
- Customer Service - Assists customers by phone and at the FD&O Front Office with general inquiries, guidance on Facilities processes, and questions related to submitted requests.
- Key Pickup - Serves as the customer pickup location for physical keys prepared and issued by the FD&O Lock Shop.
- Event Support Coordination - Coordinates FD&O resources requested for approved campus events through the University's 25Live event scheduling process and routes event-related service needs to the appropriate FD&O shops.
- Budget & Financial Administration - Supports departmental budgeting, financial administration, expenditure tracking, and other financial activities necessary to support FD&O operations.
- Purchasing & Procurement - Coordinates the purchase and procurement of materials, supplies, equipment, and contracted services required to support FD&O operations.
